Hello. I lost my previous JAMI account (back when it was RING). I’d like to associate my previous “username” with my new account. Is there a way to do that?
No, there is no way to do it. As far as I know, the usernames are registered on a blockchain, so there is no way to overwrite them.
It also seems like there is no way to disassociate a username from an account or transfer it between accounts if the original account is not lost.
I also prefer to use IDs instead of usernames, because I have a feeling that they are more tied to actual account than the usernames (which are records in a blockchain, and clients delegate checking these records to a remote server).
And I think that without a regulating authority (existence of which would be pointless in Jami) all meaningful names will be squatted at some point of time.
