I have some older backups of accounts that are stored in .gz format. This format is non standard and I cant convert them under Linux nor import them into latest Jami. This is not an important issue since made newer accounts.

Does renaming the backup extension from .gz to .jac work?

drats I already linked another account, only one account per Linux desktop

This is not so. You can have as many Jami accounts, SIP accounts, and JAMS accounts in a Jami client.
Jami for desktop
- Click on the Account in the top left.
- Select the Add another account option.
- Follow the prompts.
