I created an account on the desktop version (windows) no problem, connected to a couple of friends. I then installed & launched the ios app, clicked ‘I already have an account’ and then ‘Import from another device’. This gives the instructions to select ‘Link new device’ from the source, and on doing this on the desktop I get a small QR code and auth PIN. But on the phone, I also get a QR code / authentication code, and no camera to scan the source QR.
Quitting the mobile app and relaunching takes me straight in to Jami, past the login screen, and my account username looks like some kind of uuid. This might just be a glitch since the linking never proceeded.
I went through this exact same pain two days ago with my partner. In the end it was solved by emailing the account backup file from the PC so it could be loaded off the phone SD card into Jami.
Initiate the export on the source device.
Select Account > Account Settings > Link new device
When ready, scan the QR code below.
QR code on mobile cannot be scanned due to no camera on PC.

I’ll just stop right there because what we just did on mobile above produced a QR code and not giving an option to scan the one produced here, NOR does mobile provide input of the “Pin code” that resides next to the QR code.
Check your workflow again, or produce a video showing the one you described actually works with today’s release versions, because our voices are contra-indicating your claim that it works as described.

I fetched the latest android version from the play store (same link screen as before).
I also fetched the latest repos (opendht, …, jami-client-qt) and built them, and the link screen IS now different and takes text input “jami-auth://<*>/<*>”.

While the long code is surely more secure, the previous short code was certainly more convenient. I’m not sure how much of a benefit such a long code provides for such a short period normally attributed to linking.
On older Astarte versions accounts are transmitted via the DHT network, while in newer versions of Εἰρήνη (Eirene) accounts are transmitted via a P2P connection.
Similar issue here, except I get a network error message after a few seconds of it trying to connect. Message reads: “A Network error occurred. Please verify your connection” then close underneath. I do not get any option to scan the code from my pc so I can only copy and paste the code provided. I’m on GNU Linux so I’m wondering if it’s a firewall issue (I didn’t change anything in the default firewall settings)
