Just curious if Jami could be an irc replacement?

Your question is a bit vague, but the answer is that it depends on your use-case. As of now, Jami works well for one-to-one private messaging. The initial implementation of swarm has been merged into the main development trees, bringing message history synchronization for new conversations across devices, and the team has been working on resolving bugs and stabilizing things. Support for group chats (similar to IRC channels) isn’t there yet, but it is on the roadmap for swarm further down the line.
