Hello, thank you for testing Jami with voip.ms. if you select UDP in the first configuration screen (the one you enter your voip.ms server and username) you can make phone calls with Jami. I’ve just tested it. We’ll cotact voip.ms to update their wiki accordingly.
Here is what I expect in the instructions Wiki for Jami on Android or other OS :
Up to date information with actual screen captures ( specific to the platform, e.g. Android, iPhone, Windows-11, Linux etc )
Identification of the version of Jami and other required software items such as push notification applications
explain every parameter of the application, possible ranges of values
explain every display field of the application with explanation of the displayed values
explain the registration status of the subaccount used for Jami, if different transports are used, and if push notifications are used. For example, explain if the status Not Registered is acceptable and normal when push notifications are used.
Provide recommended order to install the Push Notification application and Jami.
Explain installation parameters for Jami and the Push Notification on Android :
Explain if Jami can be used as the standard telephone application on Android.
Explain how Android’s Contacts application can be associated with Jami to place phone calls
Explain how Android’s Contacts application can be used to show an incoming DID caller Name and picture
Explain how to configure the voip.ms account for UDP, TCP and TLS.
Explain which ports and alternate ports are supported for UDP, TCP and TLS with Jami
Explain how to configure Jami for SMS and MMS, in particular when Push Notifications are used
Provide help for troubleshooting for example if incoming DID calls do not awaken the phone ( no notification when the DID is called )
Provide the instructions for Android applications properties on various models of phones. For example on Google Pixel phones : Authorize application to run in the background, disable the removal of authorizations if not used for a while, authorize all notifications, …
Explain all parameters of the compatible Push notification applications ( ntfy, gCompat UP-Distributor …)
Cover the repositories to be used ( F-Droid and Google Play store ), for Jami and the associated Push Notifications apps as well.
Explain how to bring up in view the dialling keypad which is hidden by default
Explain how to setup Jami for voicemail (*97 on voip.ms)
Explain the integration of an SMS app ( such as Voip.MS SMS on Google play store ) and Jami. Can both coexist and not interfere with each other ?
Looking forward for an improved set of instructions. In particular I hope the instructions will provide a reliable phone service. See side note below.
As a side note, I have setup a Pixel 9 with Jami with a voip.ms account, with push notifications using ntfy. I installed both Jami and ntfy from F-Droid.
I have issues with missed notifications after a while.
For example, if the phone has been idle for a long time, it does not react to incoming DID calls.
I then try to awaken the phone by turning on the display.
The incoming DID calls are still missed.
If I then open the Pixel 9 past the lock screen, then incoming DID calls show up to Jami.
