Just had my brother return from a trip to Spain where he said Jami wouldn’t work. He was connected to generic hotel internet and local 4g where he used Whatsapp and RCS messaging OK. When he turned his mobile on after landing back home all the messages were received. I can’t think of a reason why it wouldn’t work, has anyone got any ideas?
The most likely reason is that he doesn’t have a public IP address, neither IPv4 nor IPv6. Alternatively, it could be due to the fact that the hotel’s server is connected to a large number of devices, causing connectivity issues
I think there s a bit more than meets the eye. My brother is still having issues receiving messages, none of my other contacts have issues. Hes complaining saying all messages come though after extended delays (many hours). I’m guessing its a setting on his phone.
From the symptom, all the messages come though only when he opens the app. Once he switches to another app things stop. His status my end goes orange, just checking with hes got Run in Background enabled
Did he set it up in the operating system to ensure that Jami stays alive in the background?
I did ask him that but he never answered. Does it sound reasonable to think he didn’t have the “run in background setting enabled? He said he never gets any notifications or messages. They all came though only when he remembered to open Jami.
Interestingly, regardless of the “run in background” option selected in the Jami app. On the Android platform in Settings > Apps > Jami > App battery Usage > Allow background usage will be set to “off” suggesting it will not run in the background at an OS level? The options mentioned previously don’t have any influence on each other. So when you change one at the OS settings level it doesn’t reflect the change in the app.
