Jami - problems with Windows client

Since starting to use Jami, I have noticed a problem with the Windows Client.
Calling from the Jami Windows version to Jami Linux version, two way Video works correctly, while the Linux user can hear the Windows user, the Windows user can not hear the Linux user.
Equally from Windows client to Windows client there are also audio issues, which were resolved today during a call after the call was established. The fix on Build 202506161038 Version b15d692a41384122a. was to select the audio and change from the “Default - Speakers (Realtek Audio)” to “Speakers (Realtek Audio)” . As soon as Speakers (Realtek Audio) was selected the Audio started working. The laptop is running Windows 10 22H2
With a Linux client at both ends, the communication is two way for Video and audio, there no issues. Both Linux clients running Build 2025061317222.

Thank you for confirming that with Linux clients at both ends, the communication is two-way for audio and video, and there are no issues.

Support for Windows 10 ends on October 14, 2025.

Can you upgrade all your (desktop and laptop) computers to Linux?

Alas no, the local Windows 10 laptop due to user requirements needs to be Windows :frowning: , the remote Windows PC is decided by that user. I have suggested upgrading the local laptop from Windows to LinuxMint but they are reluctant to switch, unfortunately there are instances when being able to run Windows is a necessity. I would expect the same bug to exist on Windows 11

The end of Windows 10 is approaching, so it’s time to consider Linux and LibreOffice

Is being reluctant to switch from Windows to Linux Mint a very brave decision?

Personally I stopped using Microsoft after Windows 95 as a desktop. In respect of the Windows 10 laptop, I disabled the TPM in the BIOS it will not upgrade to Windows 11, it is already reporting that it is not compatible. Do I care Microsoft will not support after October, no, do I care if I can still get application software updates yes. Mozilla did support Windows 7 for some time after MS stopped. If Jami is supporting Windows going forward then you need to incorporate the Media recording protection automatically to prevent screen/audio capture as announced by Signal but making sure it can not be turned off, if the protection is turned off then Jami should complain and refuse to work.

Thank you for your response.

In Windows, the media recording protection setting to prevent screen/audio capture can be set to off; however, it may not be respected by the Windows operating system, and hence Jami may be unaware that the media recording protection is not working.

Is there misinformation or misunderstanding if anyone has reluctance to switch from Windows to a free/libre and open-source operating system?

Is now the time to switch from Windows to Linux Mint (or any free/libre and open-source operating system)?
