Jami usability : Keypad for dialing and signaling

There is no visible Keypad available during a voice call via SIP VOIP.
It is thus not possible to interact with automated voice answering systems.

Request : Implement RFC for In-band signalling using DTMF and also data packets.

" This memo describes how to carry dual-tone multifrequency (DTMF) signalling, other tone signals, and telephony events in RTP packets. It obsoletes RFC 2833."

Keyboard is supported and there should be a button to show a embedded keyboard in the callview for SIP

Thank you. I would not have found the keyboard without your help. The problem is one of UI affordance : the keyboard is hidden by default and the button to bring up the keyboard is also hidden by default.

To make Jami more usable, the keyboard should be in plain view whenever a SIP call is made.

If that is too complicated, then the button to bring up the keyboard should always be in view.

See screenshot below, when calling the voicemail account using *97.

By the way, there should also be a keyboard interface for voicemail, usually a long press of the digit 1 on the keyboard.

For a reference interface of a keyboard with the voicemail quick access on key 1, here are example screenshots.

In those apps, there is a setting to associate the voicemail number with the quick access key :

  1. Pixel telephone application on Android 15.

  2. Sipnetic

    .

On the main dialog for establishing a call, a dialing keypad cannot be displayed. For softphone mobile applications, a dialing keypad with large keys should be visible in order to place a call.
Jami’s keypad is only available after a SIP call has been established.
