Hi all,
since I received the news that Microsoft will be closing down Skype, I am looking for a free alternative. I’d prefer a free application for communication with friends to be used from my desktop Mac M1 and NOT an iPhone. Up to now I find Jami very suitable. On trial runs I saw a blinking coloured circle on my monitor, when somebody with an account called me but there was no ringtone. Apple’s available ringtones are for the iPhone. I don’t know how to use one of them on my desktop Mac to alert me to a call, when I am not sitting in front of the monitor.
Assuming I had a suitable ringtone,
what file format would it be for OS 15.4,
where should it be stored and
how could a Jami call activate it?
I have found several YouTube videos on how to make a ringtone from any piece of music, but they are all for the iPhone.
Jami for Desktop is equivalent for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows operating systems. The following information is based on Jami for Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon; however, it should also be relevant for Jami for macOS.
Hi ovari, thanks a lot for your reply which was partially helpful for me. At least now I know, that there exists a ringtone possibility in Jami and there is a library of sounds (opus) similar to the ringtones in the Apple universe.
What I could not yet find out how to listen to those opuses and where do I copy that list within the Apple OS, so that Jami can activate the chosen sound when a call comes in.
Thanks! Andy
