I am trying to set up Jami using ship with VoIP.ms
.using the steps in there wiki at https://wiki.voip.ms/article/Jami. It looks like the screen shots they provide may not be up to date.
I have a the details of a sip account. They say I don’t need a sub account.
When I add the details of the sip account jami says it is not connected.
I am a refugee from Skype and beyond my skill set. I would like to get Jami running on my android device.
1. Create a sub-account on VOIP.ms. This is free and involves creating a virtual sub-account of the main account that is used, for example, on an ATA such as the Grandstream HT812. Here’s how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgaaWwnVHWg
MISTAKE TO AVOID: initially, I used the same VOIP.ms account on my various devices, which meant that either none of them rang for incoming calls, or only one device rang at random.
2. For each device using JAMI with a SIP account, you need to create a new sub-account, otherwise the different devices will be “competing” to take the incoming call. For example, I have a SIP account with JAMI on my cell phone and another on my PC, so I created 2 sub-accounts for my phone account on VOIP.ms (my main account is on my HT812).
3. Enter the information needed to set up the new SIP accounts in JAMI (see Pierre’s example in the above link). Be careful to use a different VOIP.ms sub-account name on each device.
4. Create a Ring group in VOIP.ms as shown here: https://wiki.voip.ms/article/Ring_Groups
The ring group must include the main account and also the sub-accounts.
Test it and congratulate yourself for your effort, as it should work
Also, it might be worth renaming your subject to something more relevant to the topic at hand, e.g. New user VOIP.MS account setup. That might help other users looking for that information on the forum.
