Hi, I am running Jami inside a Qubes-OS Qube (basically a VM, but set up a bit differently, in case you don’t know what Qubes-OS is).
The desktop environment, XFCE4, runs in dom0 and the systray (which is in dom0) talks to the Qube with a specific Qubes-OS protocol using a program called qrexec.
When I have Jami running and I click the icon in the systray the Jami window disappears, if I click the icon again then the Jami window appears but the icon in systray disappears and I can’t get it back without restarting Jami.
First I thought this was some bug in the way Qubes-OS qrexec worked and I tried installing Jami inside a standalone VM running Fedora 43 and XFCE4. In that standalone VM I could not reproduce the problem reinforcing my idea that this was a Qubes-OS problem.
BUT 
When in the standalone VM and I have Jami running without being logged in anywhere, I just have the beginning screen, then when I click the icon in systray the program stops. I am not sure if this is a bug in Jami or what is going on but I think the two are related.
As soon as I log in to anything (a sip account, Jami account, or anything) then clicking the icon in systray works in the standalone VM, and I can do that as many times as I want to.
My hypothesis is that the systray icon somehow tries to check the status of the Jami application, if there is a click on the icon and your not logged in anywhere, then quit the program. If your logged in somewhere then just show/hide the window depending on the previous state.
So in Qubes-OS, my hypothesis is that when I click the icon in systray it tries to check the status of the Jami application (see if I am logged in somewhere) and fails because of Qubes-OS and the special way that is set up and thus tries to stop Jami, but only manages to stop the systray icon.
Are my hypothesis right?
I realize that you might not be able to answer about my hypothesis regarding Qubes-OS but if you might be able to confirm my hypothesis about how systray icon and the application interact (that is the systray icon checks if Jami is logged in somewhere upon being clicked) that would be great.
PS. I do realize that the icon itself does not do anything, but there is some listener that reacts to when it is clicked.
