What makes Jami a popular choice among Discord alternatives?

Are the effects of the previous Discord data breaches cause for concern?

Are the effects of a recent Discord data breach a serious cause for concern?

Do all of the global Discord users have grave privacy concerns?

Are searches for “delete Discord” and “Discord alternatives” leading users to “Jami”?

Jami does not require any personal information to create an account. No email address required. No phone number required. As no information is provided to create a Jami account, there can be no data breach with a Jami account.

And if you think handing over ID is risk-free, think again. Just last month [November 2025], a data breach at Discord exposed copies of government identification documents collected for age verification. More than 68,000 Australians were affected. That’s the reality of expanding sensitive data collection – every new database becomes a target. Under this ban, large numbers of Australians will be asked to upload ID or biometric data, creating high-value troves of personal information. One breach is all it takes for that data to fall into the wrong hands, and once it’s out, you can’t get it back.

Discord advises UK users that they “may be part of an experiment” where instead of their age verification data never leaving their phone, it will now actually leave their phone

“All details are blurred except your photo and date of birth, so only what’s truly needed for age verification is used.”

UK Discord users have raised concerns about the company’s new age verification processes, claiming that while it had originally promised that “video selfies submitted for facial age estimation will never leave a user’s device”, a change in service provider allegedly now suggests otherwise.

Currently, Jami can still be considered a decent chat software with good security

I would not consider Jami to be a discord alternative. The server + channel structure would take a lot of development to add to Jami. It’s much closer to a Telegram/Whatsapp replacement.

Discord says they will not be paying threat actors who claim to have stolen the data of 5.5 million unique users from the company’s Zendesk support system instance, including government IDs and partial payment information for some people.

The company is also pushing back on claims that 2.1 million photos of government IDs were disclosed in the breach, stating that approximately 70,000 users had their government ID photos exposed.

Jami is a Discord alternative that protects users’ privacy.

Jami is not a Discord alternative no matter how many nice features it has. It lacks most of the social structure that Discord servers provided. It won’t happen without radical shifts in Jami’s design. Maybe if “rooms” or something get introduced but otherwise I don’t think so. I certainly can’t sell any of my friends on it.
