We are attempting to put Jami into service, to replace Skype, and running into problems:
In two separate cases (test calls with my boss, and test calls between my desktop iMac and my Chromebook), one side can hear the other; the other side cannot.
I’m not hearing any kind of audible notification of an incoming chat message.
Also, on my Mac, it appears to be ignoring the “enter to insert a new line” setting.
I’ll try that later this morning, and report back on it.
What about audible notification of incoming chat messages? Does Jami have that? If so, how could it have been disabled; if it doesn’t have that feature, why not?
As it happens, last night, I uninstalled Jami on my Chromebook by mistake. I reinstalled it just now (and found out that I couldn’t reuse the old user-ID). This time, on both ends, I enabled every available codec on both my Mac and my Chromebook, and it worked.
Except that I find (and I think this was also the case yesterday) that I can’t initiate an audio or video call from the Chromebook (it’s running the Android mobile app version; I’ve considered installing the Linux version, but the Linux subsystem is . . . clunky.
And there is still no audible notification of an incoming chat message. On either the Mac or the Chromebook. Texts on cell phones have audible notifications. So does my email reader. So does Skype. But I can’t find any way to enable one in Jami. Is it buried somewhere? Or is it just not there?
The solution from a year ago, of turning on formatting, to get “enter for new line” to work, doesn’t appear to help in the Mac OS Jami version currently on the Apple App Store.
Jami also exists on the App Store for Mac OS? I thought it was only available as a download from the Jami website. I don’t know the version on the App Store, maybe it’s not based on Qt.
