I have been checking out different messaging apps & Jami stood out because of its decentralized setup—no central servers, which is awesome. I am not super tech-savvy but I do care a lot about privacy & avoiding platforms that track everything we do.
I have used Signal & I have played around with Matrix/Element too. I am just trying to get a feel for how secure & private Jami is compared to those. How solid is its encryption? Does it leak any metadata? And how does it handle updates since it’s decentralized?
I came across Jami while doing a Blockchain Developer Course& the idea of decentralized communication clicked with me instantly. I want to hear what actual users think. Is it ready for daily use or still kind of in development mode?
Also i have check this Need to use central servers Still i want to know more.
Notre pseudo jami : orevlucanje
I can’t really comment on Jami’s security, but as someone who currently runs their own Matrix homeserver as well as a Jami node, I can say that I do not yet think that Jami is anywhere near as reliable as Matrix (although Matrix is also not without its reliability problems!)
I still think of Jami as alpha level software.
Lest that come off as too harsh, I will say that I do think that Jami is the best p2p that I’ve tried, and I keep on using it in a test situation with the hopes that someday it will replace my Matrix homeserver (which costs time and money to maintain and is dependent on a central server)
I think the future is p2p, but Jami needs to work better on mobile especially, and of course there needs to be a good way to export the chats.
